Our Story

CLARDS® stands as the brilliant brainchild of Carla Scholz, a seasoned art director, passionate Minnesota entrepreneur, and a devoted mom. She first made waves with "Soak it Up Cloths," an enchanting and
eco-friendly assortment of Swedish dishcloths celebrated for their practicality, eco-conscious design,
and sheer FUNctionality.

Fueled by an unwavering commitment waste reduction and an acute understanding of consumer behavior, Carla identified the troubling trend of excessive consumption of single-use paper products, including paper towels and greeting cards. Through research, she uncovered a startling reality: the world collectively squandered an astounding $12 billion on household paper towels in 2017, with American consumers contributing a substantial $5.7 billion to that colossal figure. To put this in perspective, the United States alone expended nearly as much on paper towels as the entire rest of the world combined. When you factor in the demand for disposable greetings for every conceivable holiday, this issue perpetuates the unsustainable use of millions of trees and billions of gallons of water each year.

Driven by an unwavering mission to reshape the landscape of single-use paper products, Carla embarked on a transformative journey to re-envision the potential of European sponge cloth. Her first "eureka" moment? The ingenious metamorphosis of this versatile material into greeting cards. And just like that, (and more than 5 years of research and development) CLARDS came into existence, poised to revolutionize the way we engage with disposable paper products and celebrate special occasions.
